Just keep swimming

Out of nowhere, just as I was despairing about ever getting any kind of writing job, I received an email.

Hi Alex,

Would you be interested in working freelance for Tech Radar Pro?

I couldn’t really believe my eyes. I spent the rest of my working day hiding email correspondence between myself and an editor of one of the country’s top tech websites. Fast forward three weeks of excitement, a notice letter and a HMRC self-assessment application and here I am, a self-employed freelance writer.

Not only have I bagged a job that will help my portfolio immensely, I’ve got one in a section of journalism that I have a passion about: technology. Writing about all the current events has been fantastic. After a few teething problems getting my style and voice right, I’m starting to become faster, better and more fluid with my writing. It’s even spurred me into re-awakening this blog and drafting out actual novel storylines!

So here’s to a new chapter in my life, where I do what I love for work and can even wear pajamas to it too.
